The Nature of Karpathos.

  Many parts of the island are of unique natural beauty.
Some of these places are:

• Trachanamos Area: In this area, there are cedars, which extend
to the sea and are found in very few places in Greece.
It is noteworthy that this kind of bush like plants are in protected zones.
This area begins from the bays Lares, Adeia, Vrontis, and the foreland Marathos and its greatest part is on the mountain Kali Limni.

Extended forests with coniferous trees especially Pinus Brutia consist magnificent scenery.

  The visitor will enjoy exploring places with dashing streams,
breathtaking steep dingles, and green valleys with natural springs.
This area is of great value because of its unique geomorphology
and its pine trees. There are also many kinds of plants and animals.
The plant Silene Holzmanii is a sensitive plant found in the Aegean
and is protected by the Treaty of Bern and the Greek Law (67/81).


• The Cave of Achata: Over the beautiful beach of Achata is located a cave with stalactites and stalagmites.


• Mertonas - Katodio: This vineyard area combines the colours of the sea together with the colours of the mountain in a unique way.
